It was McLaren’s sixth one-two finish of the season, with Oscar Piastri winning a very wet Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps, which saw a delayed start on Sunday.

Piastri claimed the victory to extend his lead in the Drivers’ Championship, while his teammate and pole-sitter, Lando Norris, secured second place.

Piastri took the chequered flag in 1:25:22.601 after 44 laps, finishing 3.415 seconds ahead of Norris, who had won the previous two races.

The McLarens once again proved their class this season, as Charles Leclerc of Ferrari rounded off the podium in third, 20.185 seconds off the pace, but just ahead of reigning World Champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull, whom he edged by 1.546 seconds.

George Russell was the first Mercedes across the line in fifth, while Alex Albon of Williams capped off a solid weekend by finishing sixth. Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, of Ferrari, qualified in 16th but produced a phenomenal drive at the iconic circuit to finish seventh overall.

Following his win – now the most by an Australian in a single season – Piastri said that after qualifying second, he knew he had to make an early move.

“I knew lap one was probably going to be my best chance of winning the race. I got a good exit out of Turn 1 and lifted as little as I dared through Eau Rouge – and that was enough.

“The rest of the race we managed really well. Struggled a little bit at the end – maybe the Mediums weren’t the best for the last five or six laps – but we had it mostly under control, which is exactly what I wanted.

“I was pretty disappointed with myself after yesterday, but turns out starting second at Spa isn’t too bad after all.”

This week, the teams and drivers head to the Hungaroring for the Hungarian Grand Prix. Sunday’s race at a tight, twisty circuit known for delivering unpredictable action, is scheduled to start at 15:00.
