OFM-aanbieder samel meer as R230k in vir Reach for a Dream─── 12:18 Mon, 28 Nov 2022

Toe, met 30 kilometer oor, gaan skeur ek alles in my knie.

OFM presenter raises over R230k for Reach for a Dream
The host of OFM’s Good Morning Breakfast show, Shandor Potgieter, participated in the K-Way SkyRun 100 race this past November. His goal? To raise R100 000 for Reach for a Dream to make the dreams of 20 children living with life-threatening diseases a reality.
The race, which takes place annually in the Witteberg Mountain range in the Eastern Free State, could not be completed by Potgieter after he was seriously injured 70 kilometres into the race, requiring surgery a few days later.
Potgieter says, “The race was amazing, but the conditions were quite brutal. The area received a ton of rain over the past few weeks, which meant the vegetation was overgrown. It was a tough race physically. I made it to the halfway mark and everything felt good. Then, with 30 kilometres left, I went and tore everything in my knee. That was quite disappointing.
“However, the race was run not on that weekend but ahead of time with all the donations received from listeners, clients, friends, and family. We surpassed our original goal of R100 000 by Friday, 18 November. We were on R132 000 and then we received another pledge from a teacher in the Vaal over the weekend for another R100 000.
“The support from the community to make these kids’ dreams come true was astounding and that was what kept me going on that mountain on race day.”
Potgieter adds that he is on the road to recovery, busy with rehabilitation to his knee, and will be back to take on the 100km race again in the future.
