The CUT Ixias got their Varsity Shield campaign off to a solid start by defeating the dangerous University of the Western Cape 25-10 in Bloemfontein last night. Former Springbok coach, Peter de Villiers, is currently in charge of the UWC side. The Ixias outscored the Cape outfit by three tries to one, despite losing countless line-outs in the blustery conditions. Johan van Schalkwyk Alec Mhlanga and captain Inus Kritzinger went over for the hosts.
In last night’s other match, the University of KwaZulu Natal Impi produced a stunning late comeback to secure a tense 34-31 away victory over the TUT Vikings. The Impi’s are now top of the Varsity Shield standings.
