The Griquas captain RJ Liebenberg is in a stable condition after being admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.

The flank suffered an epileptic seizure just before the team departed to KwaZulu-Natal for their tour on Saturday.

Player consulted a neurosurgeon and the doctor was satisfied with the scan and that at this stage there is no real cause for concern.

OFM Sport spoke to Liebenberg last night and the player indicted that he is feeling better each minute.

The team's co-captain, AJ Coertzen, told OFM Sport that this has come as a huge blow to the team.

“We are a group of brothers who are very close to each other, and we care a lot about each other.

“It’s a real pity that he isn’t with us tonight on tour.

“The fact that won’t be in the team with us this week is a big blow for us and our depth will be tested.

“We know that RJ is in good hands in the hospital and we pray that he recovers quickly and that he will be back with us as soon as possible”.

The team's coach, Peter Engeldow, told OFM Sport that the news hit the team hard but they are delighted that their skipper is doing well.

“It was obviously not good news for the squad, especially before our departure.

“His roommates were very upset and it was quite difficult for them to depart with us as the squad.

“We are very happy that nothing serious has come up with the scans to date.

“We are all thinking about it and it’s a pity that he is not here with us.

“It’s a bit of a shock for us at the moment, but I’m sure he will pull through, he’s a tough guy and great leader.

“I’m sure we will see him back on the park sooner rather than later”.

Further tests will be conducted on Liebenberg on Monday.
