The Griffons preparations for this weekend’s opening round fixture of the Super Sport Rugby Challenge against the Leopards remain on track and while it may be a new competition, the Welkom-based side is weary of the Potch boys.
This weekend's Central South African derby will be a re-match of last year’s Currie Cup first division final which the Griffons won 60-36 and the memory of that defeat will be fresh in Jonathan Mokuena’s mind.
The Leopards will want to set the record straight and following Mokuena's loss with the Pukke in the final of the recently concluded Varsity Cup, he will be itching to get a victory in the bag.
The Griffons maintain the bulk of that side that thrashed the Leopards in that final, and while some changes have been forced some familiar faces return to the fray.
Last season’s Griffons player of the year Barend Potgieter, will once again don the number one jersey while the experienced Tertius Maarman moves to fullback to replace Selvyn Davids who is currently doing 7’s duty.
The game which will be played in Schweizer Reneke gets underway at 15:00.
