Nche to face citing commision─── MORGAN PIEK 15:00 Tue, 05 Mar 2019
The Toyota Cheetahs prop, Ox Nche, will have a Guinness Pro14 citing commission for an incident of alleged foul play during Friday evenings’ match against Leinster at the RDS Arena in Dublin.
The Springbok loosehead prop was sent to the sin bin in the 10th minute of the clash after a late and dangerous tackle on the winger, Fergus McFadden.
During the match, the referee Nigel Owens deemed the incident to be nothing more than a yellow card, and he reminded Nche that he was lucky that it was nothing more.
Nche has a clean record and this will count in his favour when it comes to the length of the sanction imposed on the player.
Even it was not an intentional charge on McFadden, the Pro14 comes down quite hard on incidents of foul play.
The Pro14 confirmed that Nche will appear before the commission via a statement.
“A Disciplinary Committee will meet in Edinburgh on Wednesday, March 6, to consider the Citing Complaint made against Ox Nche (No 1) of the Toyota Cheetahs for an incident which occurred against Leinster Rugby on Friday, March 1, 2019.
“The complaint refers to an incident involving Leinster Rugby No 11 (Fergus McFadden) in the ninth minute of the Guinness PRO14 Round 17 fixture at the RDS Arena (Dublin) for which he was shown a yellow card by referee Nigel Owens.
“The player has been reported by the Citing Commissioner in charge for infringement of Law 9.13 – A player must not tackle an opponent early, late or dangerously. Dangerous tackling includes, but is not limited to, tackling or attempting to tackle an opponent above the line of the shoulders even if the tackle starts below the line of the shoulders.
“Additionally, the player has also been reported for infringement of Law 9.25 – A player must not intentionally charge or obstruct an opponent who has just kicked the ball.
“The Player will face a Disciplinary Committee via video conference, the Committee will comprise of Sheriff Kathrine Mackie, Roddy MacLeod and Jennifer Rae (All Scotland).”
As it stands the Cheetahs lock, Justin Basson, is serving a six-match suspension for illegal cleaning at the ruck, while the centre, Nico Lee, is two weeks into a 13-week suspension for cleaning the contents of his nose onto an opposing player.
