Small-Smith and Aranos fit for Ospreys clash─── MORGAN PIEK 13:00 Fri, 05 Apr 2019
The Toyota Cheetahs winger, William Small-Smith, and the tighthead prop, Aranos Coetzee, have both been declared fit and will play in the Guinness Pro14 game against the Ospreys on Saturday.
Small-Smith will start on the wing, while Coetzee will play off the bench.
Upfront, Joseph Dweba, returns to start at hooker, while Luan de Bruin, start in the number three jersey.
The only change to the backline sees Shaun Venter starting at scrumhalf, and he will once again captain the side.
On the bench, Rudy Paige comes in for Tian Meyer as a backup to Venter.
While there is no chance of the Cheetahs to reaching the knockout stage, the flanker, Abongile Nonkontwana, tells OFM Sport that there is still pressure to finish their season strongly.
“We can’t really consider the next three games as the start of the new season, because in honesty we need to cap off this current season.
“AS much as things haven’t gone our way, what we are looking forward to is seeing the improvement and seeing how we can finish off this season.
“These last three games are vital in terms of where we measure ourselves afterwards moving onto the next season.
“It is all about that making sure we can say from where we start last year to where are at the end of this season where we are in term of growth, and in terms of accuracy in the process that has been put ahead of us.
“In saying that, we do have some sort of pressure. Especially from the fans, and ourselves as well. We’ve got a goal that we want to be unbeaten and home this year, and thus far we haven’t lost a game yet.
“Coming into these last three games, which are home games, this sense of pride among boys, we want to play to our full potential and also make a statement that says that we are a much better side at home.
“We would like to lure more of our fans as we finish off this season and head into the Currie Cup and the next Pro14 season. We would just like to give them assurance and thank them again by performing well when they come to watch us.
“Coming to the Ospreys for the weekend’s game, it is going to be an outfit with international and Six Nations experience. So, one has to be ready and prepared and mentally switched on.
“Most of us are excited about the game and we want to put on a good performance, especially against a side with a lot of international experience. That will say a lot for us. If you want to be the best, you need to measure yourself against the best, and I think that there is no better platform than this week.”
