Jasper Wiese and Erich de Jager, who played against the Southern Kings in the Pro14 last week, will both start, while Marnus van der Merwe, Boan Venter, and Darren Adonis have been named on the bench.

Wiese will be starting at the back of the scrum in the place of Niell Jordaan who is unavailable for the match. De Jager in his turn starts in the place of the injured Günther Janse van Vuuren at tighthead prop.

Van der Merwe will be providing cover at hooker and at loose-forward off the bench, while Venter, who scored a try during his Pro14 debut will provide cover at prop.

In another change to the pack, the lock, Luyaolo Dupula, has been promoted to the starting side at the expense of Deniss Visser, while Rhyno Nel comes onto the bench.

Adonis, who only played for about four minutes against the Kings, replaces Carel-Jan Coetzee on the bench.

Last week the Free State fought back from 28-0 down to beat the Sharks XV 40-31 in Bloemfontein, and this will be taking this confidence into the game.

The coach, Izak van der Westhuizen, told OFM Sport that it is great to be able to call on the quality of Wiese, Venter and the likes of.

“We did have a bit of stuttered start to our campaign, but the guys did show a lot of character to fight back, especially from 28-0 down. They showed a lot of composure and stuck to their system well.

“Boland is a bit of an unknown, but never a team to be underestimated, so we have prepared for them with everything that we’ve got.

“We did pick up a couple of injuries from last week, but the experience that player like Jasper, Boan, and Marnus will bring will definitely be very good for us.

“Without giving too much away there is a definite plan for them, and on top of that they are very eager to play.”

Saturday's game on the West Coast kicks off at 14:00.
