Tian Schoeman - Gallo

The Toyota Cheetahs flyhalf, Tian Schoeman, is honoured to have been one of two players from the franchise received an accolade during the annual Guinness Pro14 awards on Sunday night.

Schoeman received the Ironman Award for spending more time on the field than any other player in the competition this season.

The other accolade went to Rabz Maxwane, who was named as the top try-scorer.

Schoeman told OFM Sport that was fortunate to have any serious injuries this season.

“It has been a long and tough season for the Cheetahs but were are already looking forward to next season and the Currie Cup.

“It has been a good start for me at the Cheetahs, and I have been fortunate not to have any serious injuries, and I have been healthy to play in just about all of the matches.

“I’m really honoured to be the recipient of the Ironman Award.”

Maxwane, who scored 14 tries in the tournament equalled the record of Tim Visser and came agonisingly close to breaking the benchmark. It was not to be, however, the flier told OFM Sport that he has a goal for next season.

"I am still gutted that I didn’t get what I set up for myself. That is a bounce of the ball I suppose, the one moment you are lucky, and the next you aren’t."

"I am looking forward to working towards that again, but my goal was to be the top try scorer, and I achieved that."

Meanwhile, the Cheetahs take a break until the end of May before starting their preseason ahead of the Currie Cup. A select few of the players will and have already played for the Toyota Free State XV in the SuperSport Rugby Challenge.

Next week Friday Glasgow Warriors will host Ulster in the first Pro14 semi-final, and on Saturday Leinster entertain Munster.
