The Tafel Lager Griquas are quietly confident of becoming the first ever team to reach the final of the SuperSport Rugby Challenge for the third time.

The Peacock Blues will face Western Province on Sunday in the semi-finals in Nelspruit. During the 2017 final the Griquas lost to Province in the final in Ravensmead, and last year the Pumas earned a late win in Oudtshoorn.

Andre Swarts of the Griquas told OFM Sport that still have a job to do this weekend.

“It’s a big privilege for us as a union to be in the play-offs again. For any union to be in a competitions play-offs it makes it worthwhile and makes all the hard work pay off.

“We are really excited and keen for this weekend’s semi-finals, but I don’t think that we can read anything into the Boland’s win over Western Province.

“This is because any team can beat another in this competition if they pitch up on the day.

“We are mainly focussing on ourselves and we are not even looking at the final yet. Our focus is just on this weekend and to do our job correctly.

“We have a lot of respect for Western Province. They are a good outfit and they have a lot of structures in place.

“It is not going to be an easy game, but were are looking forward to it nonetheless and hopefully we can pull off the win.”

Sunday’s semi-final in the Lowveld kicks off at 14:30. At 12:30 the defending champions, the Pumas tackle the Boland Cavaliers.
