Cheetahs expect faster game in Cardiff─── MORGAN PIEK 17:18 Mon, 04 Nov 2019
The Toyota Cheetahs are expecting a faster-paced game on Saturday when they tackle the Cardiff Blues in Cardiff during round six of the Guinness PRO14.
Wet and windy conditions at Parc y Scarlets on Saturday made an expansive game against Scarlets in Llanelli virtually impossible.
While the Cheetahs lost 17-13 to Scarlets on Saturday they are positive and hopeful that they will deliver a much-improved performance during their final tour match.
While certain aspects of the game over the weekend were better by the Cheetahs, others did, however, let them down.
Adapting to the conditions is a major focus area for the team at the moment and while they are showing signs of improving it still hasn’t been enough to wins games on tour.
One can argue that they Cheetahs a bit unlucky on Saturday as the Scarlets captain, Steff Hughes, knocked the ball on in the process of stealing the ball, which led to their second try.
The Cheetahs coach, Hawies Fourie, told OFM Sport that a better kicked gave is what is expects from his team and he feels the G4 pitch and better weather in Cardiff will suite them more.
“We didn’t play as well as we wanted to. The conditions were really difficult, but in saying that I felt that we should have kicked a little more and better.
“There were periods in the game where we kept the ball and made some momentum with the forwards but in those conditions, you are always going to make handling errors if you try to play too much with ball in hand.
“It was a good learning curve for us and hopefully we will be able to turn the tables against the Cardiff Blues. The pitch there is an artificial G4 pitch which will allow for a faster game, and at this stage, the weather forecast is also looking good.”
The Cheetahs face the Cardiff Blues on Saturday with kick-off at Cardiff Arms Park at 19:15.
