There will also be an R1 million prize on offer for one lucky Sun MVG golfer.

The Gary Player Country Club was amongst hundreds of South African golf courses that were forced to close their doors during the government’s Coronavirus lockdown.

But on Saturday 19 September, the world-renowned golf course will celebrate its return with a symbolic First Round featuring a select group of celebrities, sports stars, media and VIP guests playing the course for the first time since the reopening of golf courses nationwide.

There will also be a R1 million prize for a hole-in-one on the par-three 12th hole, available exclusively to the Sun MVG loyalty programme golfers who will be taking part.

“It has been a long and challenging process, but we are delighted to be able to reopen the iconic Gary Player Country Club and welcome golfers back to our world-class facility,” said Brett Hoppe, General Manager Sun City Resort.

“Ken Payet, our Operations Manager for Sport and Recreation at Sun City, and his team have worked closely with GolfRSA in implementing the government-approved Risk Mitigation Strategy for golf courses, and to ensure we are now able to open in a safe and responsible manner for our guests.
