The wait is finally over─── MORGAN PIEK 08:32 Fri, 09 Oct 2020
Super Rugby Unlocked will get underway on Friday evening when the Sharks tackle the Lions in the opening match of the competition.
Competitive rugby in South Africa was halted back in March due to the global Covid-19 pandemic. While there have been a few games over the past couple of weeks, it's the first time in nearly seven months that a domestic competition will take place.
The action gets underway at 19:00 with this match between the Sharks and Lions being played at Kings’ Park in Durban.
Closer to home, the Toyota Cheetahs will entertain the Pumas tomorrow afternoon in Bloemfontein.
This match will see the two-time World Cup-winning Springbok, Frans Steyn, making his debut for the Cheetahs, while Andisa Ntsila and Chucky van der Westhuizen, will also represent the side for the first time.
Cheetahs coach, Hawies Fourie, told OFM Sport that their Currie Cup title defence starts tomorrow.
“We set ourselves the goal to win the Currie Cup again, and obviously it will be starting on Saturday.
“It is not in December where the Currie Cup starts, it's from the first game onwards.
“It’s important for us to do well because the Currie Cup is a part of our DNA.
“Our supporters really value the Currie Cup and it’s a very important competition for us to do well in.”
This match kicks off at 16:30 on Saturday afternoon, while at 19:00 the Bulls host the Griquas at Loftus Versfeld.
