The Tafel Lager Griquas will be desperate to turn their fortunes around when the Carling Currie Cup kicks off this weekend.

During the SuperRugby Unlocked series, the Peacock Blues were unable to record a single victory, although they pushed the Bulls and Sharks hard, while for 60 minutes against the Toyota Cheetahs they stood their ground.

On Saturday the Griquas tackle the Golden Lions in Kimberley, and the coach, Scott Mathie, says it’s important to turn their home ground into a fortress.

“It's always been tough in Kimberley.

“If you ask the Sharks they will tell you the same thing.

“It's a tough place to come to and I think we have turned a corner when it comes to that home game.

“That is something we will be definitely, be looking to do, to make all our home games a priority in terms of performances and toughness.”

When these two teams met in the SuperRugby Unlocked series in October, the Lions ran riot with a 61-31 victory at Ellis Park in Johannesburg.

Saturday’s match at Tafel Lager Park kicks off at 16:30.
