Thomson joined the Cheetahs in February, however, an injury meant that he was a late withdrawal from the game in which he should made his debut earlier in the year.

Thomson was however unable to train on Thursday morning due to a calf niggle. At this stage the Cheetahs are expecting him to be fit and ready for Friday’s captain’s run.

Thomson is the only flyhalf named in the squad due to Reinhardt Fortuin also battling with an injury.

Should Thomson be forced to withdraw from the match, the captain Ruan Pienaar, will take over the number ten jersey.

Frans Steyn and Rosko Specman have both been included in the starting XV.

The coach, Hawies Fourie, told OFM Sport that he is battling a little with a calf strain, but should be ready.

“Brandon couldn't train on Thursday morning because he had a bit of a calf injury. He will be ready to train on Friday morning.

“We're looking forward to see him in action because he has been training really well over the past two weeks.

“Ruan will provide cover at ten if Brandon can't play. Reinhardt has also got bit of a niggle. If something happens to Brandon in the game, Ruan will slot in at flyhalf.”

Saturday’s match at the Toyota Stadium kicks off at 16:00.
