De Villiers and 11 players test positive─── MORGAN PIEK 13:50 Tue, 08 Jun 2021
The Tafel Lager Griquas match against the Eastern Province Elephants has been called off.
This comes as eleven EP players and members of the coaching staff, which included Peter de Villiers, tested positive for Covid-19.
Last week, the Toyota Cheetahs played against the Elephants in Bloemfontein. The Cheetahs did, however, all return negative results yesterday.
The president of EP Rugby, André Rademan, told OFM Sport that De Villiers, as well as some of his players, are positive and the crucial warm-up game has been called off.
"Very unfortunate news. Our head coach (Peter de Villiers) and some of the management team, as well as eleven players have tested positive for Covid-19.
"Unfortunately, this coming Saturday's game at the Griquas has been called off. Even our new offices will be closed as a precautionary measure. We will only again at 8 o'clock on Monday morning.
"It's a very sad development, but unfortunately it is out of our control. We ask that everyone stay calm, keep safe and look after yourself.
"For this week there will be no further activities at EP Rugby."
This Cheetahs game against the Pumas in Pretoria on Friday is still on at this stage.
