Cheetahs ready for action again─── MORGAN PIEK 08:38 Tue, 20 Jul 2021
The Toyota Cheetahs are braced for a double-header of Currie Cup action this week with two home games in the competition.
Tomorrow afternoon the Cheetahs tackle Western Province, while on Saturday they will be home to the Sharks in Bloemfontein.
The Cheetahs coach, Hawies Fourie, told OFM Sport they are ready to take to the field against the men from the Mother City.
“It's been quite a while since we've played in the Currie Cup.
We've only played two games thus far - against the Griquas and the Pumas. In these games the squad was depleted with Covid and injuries.
Most of the guys are back in training. It takes a bit of time, especially for the guys that had more serious Covid symptoms to get back onto the field and be a 100% fit.”
While not having played the match against the Lions in Johannesburg last week is no doubt a setback, Fourie added that that it gave them the opportunity to get more players back and boost their squad.
“We didn't play so it's always difficult, even if you train a lot, but it's not quite the same with the contact and intensity in the game, so we might lack a little game time there.
“On the other hand, we had the advantage of getting some players fit and back into the squad. I think that the benefits will be a bit more than the negatives, but we will see on Wednesday.”
Fourie will name his match 23 on Tuesday morning, and Wednesday's game at the Toyota Stadium kicks off at 16:45, you will be able to stream live commentary via ofm.co.za or the free app.
