Cheetahs expect high-tempo game against Lions | News Article

The Toyota Cheetahs will tread lightly for the Lions on Wednesday evening when the two teams battle it out in Bloemfontein in the Currie Cup.

Neither team has experienced a good Currie Cup thus far and both will be desperate for a full-house of points in order to stay in the hunt for the semi-finals.

The Cheetahs are hurting after their narrow 40-39 defeat to Western Province, while the team from Johannesburg will have renewed confidence following their 45-42 win over the Griquas.

The Cheetahs captain, Ruan Pienaar, told OFM Sport that they have to play for the full 80 minutes.

“It's exciting and we know that they probably play a little similar to the way we do. They like high-tempo and they have got a lot of game-breakers. On the turnover they've got a lot of pace and they are dangerous.

“They've probably got similar DNA to us and it will be an action-packed game.

“We know them well and they know us well. They are an exciting team we know that it's going to be an 80-minute battle again.”

The previous meeting between the two teams was cancelled last month as the Cheetahs indicated that they have concerns of traveling to Johannesburg during the high of the riots and looting which gripped Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.

Wednesday evening’s game at the Toyota Stadium kicks off at 19:00.
