Pienaar calls for an 80-minute performance─── MORGAN PIEK 15:20 Wed, 11 Aug 2021
The Toyota Cheetahs regard this Wednesday evening’s Currie Cup game against the Lions in Bloemfontein as though it’s a cup final.
With just two wins to date in the competition, the Cheetahs are under pressure in order to make the semi-finals of the world’s oldest domestic competition.
Last week the Cheetahs were edged 40-39 by Western Province at Newlands, while the Lions in their turn secured hard-fought 45-42 win over the Griquas in Kimberley.
The Cheetahs captain, Ruan Pienaar, told OFM Sport that they have to take ownership of the game.
“From the start we said that it is going to be a matter of taking it game-by-game.
“This is another challenge for us against the Lions and then we will start thinking about the rest of the games.
“We've got to take onus of the next eighty minutes and we've got to put push each other as hard as we can. It's going to be a difficult next two to three weeks with a lot of games in a short amount of time.
“It's going to be exactly the way we approached the competition from the beginning.”
Meanwhile, the Lions have made a few late changes to their team. The former Cheetahs flyhalf, Fred Zeilinga, starts at flyhalf, while Emmanuel Tshituka will start at flank.
The lock Lunga Ncube and the flankers, Travis Gordon and Mark Snyman, have been included on the bench.
Kick-off at the Toyota Stadium is at 19:00 on Wednesday night, and you will be able to stream live commentary via ofm.co.za or the free app
