Reinach gunning for the Bok No 9 jersey─── MORGAN PIEK 08:04 Mon, 25 Oct 2021
The scrumhalf, Cobus Reinach, may have earned his place in the Springbok starting team for the upcoming End of Year tour to the United Kingdom.
With Faf de Klerk out injured, Reinach, as well as Herschel Jantjies and Grant Williams, will be battling it out for the number nine jersey against Wales, Scotland and England.
On Saturday, the World Cup-winner Reinach was simply outstanding for Montpellier as he scored a brace of tries during their 32-21 win over Racing92 in the French Top14.
Long-range tries are becoming something of a trademark for the Bloemfontein born-and-bred Reinach, and against Racing92 he once again showed that he has the pace close to that of his late dad and Springbok, Jaco Reinach.
The Springbok coach, Jacques Nienaber, welcomed the strong competition in his squad.
“The guys know what they have to do and obviously with Faf being injured, there is a spot open. Between Cobus, Herschel, and Grant it is going to be a tough one.
“That is what we want in the current squad. You want good competition that always drives good standards.
“Cobus was good for us, if you think that he played for us in the British & Irish Lions series.”
The Springboks tackle Wales next week Saturday at the Millennium Stadium in their tour opener.
