Baia Mare lock Immelman excited ahead of Challenge Cup─── MORGAN PIEK 08:41 Wed, 27 Oct 2021
The Baia Mare lock, Nicolaas Immelman, looks forward to a trip home next month when the Romanian team comes to Bloemfontein to tackle the Toyota Cheetahs in the Toyota Challenge Cup.
The 28-year-old former University of the Free State Shimlas second-rower has been at the Romanian Super League champions since 2019 and will join the team.
He is however injured and won’t be playing against the Cheetahs or against the Free State XV.
Immelman told OFM Sport that he can’t wait to get home.
“We are quite excited to come to South Africa to play against the Cheetahs. We played our final a few weeks ago and now the focus is on the tour to South Africa and everyone is excited.
“It will be a great learning curve for us to see a different side of the game. The game in Romania is quite physical, but I think the Cheetahs will play at a higher tempo.
“It will be nice for our boys to see something different and it will help us a lot in our local competitions going forward.
“Coming back to Bloemfontein - I honestly can't wait to get back and see the place again. See familiar faces and speak a little bit of Afrikaans. That will be a great holiday in my view.”
The Cheetahs face Baia Mare at the Toyota Stadium on Friday, 26 November.
