The Netherlands national cricket team are in South Africa for the three-match One-Day International series against the Proteas that gets underway on Friday.

The series marks the first-ever tour to South Africa by the long-standing associate member country.

Friday’s series opener will also only be the fourth time that these two countries battle it out in an ODI, and South Africa leads the head-to-head battle 3-0.

The Dutch coach, Ryan Campbell, says they will rely on the knowledge of the former Proteas and Titans all-rounder, Roelof van der Merwe.

“Do we rely on Roelof? Of course, we do. Our best players need to stand up. He and Colin Ackermann have had a long history of playing in South Africa.

“Just their intimate knowledge of the conditions.

“We were lucky enough to have a practise match over in Centurion at SuperSport Park.

“It’s really just sort of highlighted some of the key aspects of our game that we really need to be on top of.”

Friday’s first ODI at SuperSport Park in Centurion gets underway at 10:00.
