The 23-year-old Rewan Kruger comes back into the Cheetahs mix after the news that the seasoned campaigner, Tian Meyer, will be heading to Japan.
The former Junior Springbok, Kruger, was recently named as the University of the Free State Shimlas captain for next year’s Varsity Cup.
While Kruger has previously played for the Cheetahs, the coach Hawies Fourie confirmed to OFM Sport that he is back in the mix.
“We've contracted Rewan Kruger in the place of Tian Meyer.
“I think that Rewan is also ready for the step-up. He is a talented nine who did very well as a junior.
“He went through a bit of a dark patch where he didn't get the opportunity.
“Now he has got that opportunity and I'm looking forward to see how he will do, how he will take the opportunity and make the most of it.”
Recently Kruger played for the Cheetahs as an replacement against both the Sharks and Baia Mare during the Toyota Challenge in Bloemfontein. This was as cover for both Branden de Kock and Zinedine Booysen.
The Cheetahs are set to host the Griquas on 15 January in the opening round of the Currie Cup.
