Powell lauds Blitzbok character─── MORGAN PIEK 16:26 Tue, 25 Jan 2022
The Springboks Sevens team has been drawn in Pool A for this week's Seville Sevens on the HSBC Sevens World Series.
The pool will also feature the USA and Spain, while - as was the case last week - the teams will once again have a bye in the absence of Fiji.
Argentina, who played in the Malaga Sevens final against the Blitzboks last week, will get to face Ireland, Germany, and Jamaica in Pool B.
The Blitzboks are targeting a sixth straight title on the series and the coach, Neil Powell, has credited his team's character.
“The five new players were expected to make some mistakes, being rusty, but that is out of the way now.
“There are lots of positives to take out of the weekend and we will be better in Seville, I believe.
“Yes, we have some players with the X-factor, which always gives you a chance in tight matches.
“I also know they work hard for the teammate next to them.
“There is a lot of character and mental strength in the squad, so you always expect them to come back when behind on the scoreboard.”
The Seville Sevens kicks off on Friday afternoon.
