Ungerer to trade Kimberley for Cape Town─── MORGAN PIEK 09:41 Wed, 16 Feb 2022
The Tafel Lager Griquas will be losing one of their star players at the end of the Currie Cup with the scrumhalf, Stefan Ungerer, having signed with Western Province.
Ungerer has previous played for the Stormers due in a loan spell late last year in the United Rugby Championship.
The former Junior Springbok revived a once promising career when he joined the Peacock Blues and has even captained the team.
Ungerer confirmed his sign at Province to OFM Sport and added that the focus remains in Kimberley for now.
“I actually signed about a month ago, but the news is officially out. I'm very excited and privileged to be contracted to one of the big four.
“In saying that, it is nice to know that the future for the next couple of years is secured.
“I still have a very big and important job at hand with the Griquas. I want a very successful Currie Cup campaign here want to leave on a good note and leave the jersey in a better place than what I received it.
“Very excited and happy to be heading back down to Cape Town. It's an awesome setup and I was really happy and enjoyed my time down there, but the full focus is still on the Griquas and Kimberley at the moment.”
The Griquas tackle Western Province in Kimberley on Friday in the round four of the Currie Cup.
