The Tafel Lager Griquas returned to winning ways in the Currie Cup with a 49-17 win over the Lions in Kimberley.
The Griquas scored seven tries in the match with Munier Hartzenberg, Johan Mulder, Sango Xamlashe, Kudzwai Dube, Mzwanele Zito, Reinhard Jonker and Hanru Sirgel all scoring.
Zander du Plessis converted five of the tries, while Ashlon Davids slotted two penalties.
The win has seen the Griquas remain comfortably in fourth in the standings on 15 points and 8 points clear of the fifth placed Western Province.
By their own admission the Griquas feel that they left a lot points out on the park and they could have won by an even bigger margin had they used more of their opportunities.
The Griquas coach, Pieter Bergh, told OFM Sport that it was important to record the win before their bye.
“It will be good to play against the Sharks in three weeks’ time. It will be good to take momentum they will be able to take into that game.
“There will be difficult choices for us to make as a coaching team. The guys that good opportunities against the Lions raised their hands, used it and played really well.
“All-in-all, happy with the performance. The goal was to getting five points, so very happy in the end.”
In Wednesday nights’ other match, the Toyota Cheetahs beat Western Province 24-17 in Bloemfontein.
