Dobela was a star backline marshal for the Shimlas a few seasons ago and also starred for the Free State XV in the SuperSport Rugby Challenge.

The 24-year-old Dobela has been with the Sevens Academy in Stellenbosch for a few years now will have big boots to fill.

Dobela has been included in the squad at the expense of the regular playmaker, Justin Geduld, who has a serious knee injury.

The squad was further boosted with the return of the captain Siviwe Soyizwapi.

Dobela said the news of his inclusion was welcome, especially during a difficult period.

“That was a great feeling, especially since I lost a family member recently, so the news really lifted my spirits,” said Dobela.

“The coach (Neil Powell) told me to go out and make my own mistakes as there are experienced players around me to take the weight off my shoulders.

“That eased the nerves and I am keen to back my skill set with this wonderful group of players.”

Dobela is set to become the 27th Blitzbok produced by the Shimlas and the first in nine years. The player to don the green-and-gold of the Springbok Sevens from the tertiary institution is Kevin Luiters back in 2013.

Some of their more notable Blitzboks include Chris Dry, Philip Snyman, Heinrich Brüssow, Neil Powell, Henry Honiball, Chris Badenhorst and the late Ruben Kruger.

The Singapore Sevens will be played on 8 and 9 April.
