The Lions will only face the Dragons in Newport in the URC on 21 May.

In order for the players to stay sharp and to earn a first win in the Currie Cup, the Lions will make use of the players at their disposal.

The Lions URC coach, Cash van Rooyen, suggested that they will give players game-time.

“There will be two Currie Cup games, so in-between playing time the numbers of players available per position we will make a good calculated decision about the two matches.

“You would want to keep as much momentum after the win against Benetton.

“It will be pretty similar as the last two games. I think that we started to use the Currie Cup to give the guys some game-time, especially those was are a little short of it.

“It will probably continue over the next two weeks.”

Friday evening’s match between the Lions and Cheetahs at Ellis Park in Johannesburg kicks off at 19:00.
