The Stormers loose-forward, Evan Roos, could be on debut for the Springboks this week during the second Test against Wales which will be played in Bloemfontein.

Last week the Springbok coach, Jacques Nienaber, surprised by naming Elrigh Louw on the bench ahead of the in-form Roos, who was simply outstanding in the United Rugby Championship (URC).

Louw, who was previously a part of the Cheetahs junior set up, made his debut last week at his home ground in Pretoria and came agonisingly close to scoring a try.

Roos impressed so much in the URC that he collected four awards for his outstanding play.

The 22-year-old was named as the Breakthrough Player of the Season, Players’ Player of the Season and Fans Player of the Season.

The cherry of the cake for the product of Paarl Boys’ High (Boishaai) was being named as the URC’s Player of the Season, where he beat Marcell Coetzee, Ruan Nortjé (both Bulls), Lukhanyo Am (Sharks), Vincent Tshituka (Lions) and Warrick Gelant (Stormers) to the accolade.

Roos told OFM Sport that his Springbok journey has been amazing thus far.

“It's a massive honour being part of this group that I've been watching since I was growing up," said the impressive eighth-man.

“It's just awesome to be a part of this team and working with the coaches and the class of players that we have here.

“It's been intense and it is obviously a level up from at your franchise.

“There are a lot more details and stuff to work on and it kind of gives you a new way of looking at rugby.

“I'm really enjoying it.”

The Springbok coach, Jacques Nienaber, will name the team for the second Test on Tuesday and Roos could find himself being named on the bench.

Saturday’s Test between the Springboks and Wales at the Toyota Stadium will kick off at 17:05.
