Duane is a quality player - Davids─── MORGAN PIEK 10:29 Tue, 30 Aug 2022
The Springboks will continue to back the veteran loose-forward, Duane Vermeulen, in the Rugby Championship. Vermeulen had a longer stint on the field on the weekend during the Springboks 25-17 defeat to the Wallabies in Adelaide.
It was just the World Cup winner’s second Test after returning from injury and the Boks management is happy with his progress.
The Springboks forwards coach, Deon Davids, says Vermeulen still has a lot to offer the team.
“We took his injury into consideration when he made his return after a long time," he said.
“In his second game, Duane already improved in various areas and we look forward to his involvement in this upcoming game and the contribution he and everyone else can make.
“Duane is a quality player, who always makes a big contribution to areas like the set-piece, breakdown and general play.
“We're just glad to have that experience in our squad.”
It remains to be seen if Vermeulen is named in the side for Saturday’s Test against the Wallabies in Sydney.
Jacques Nienaber will be naming his side for the Sydney at 11am on Tuesday.
