Bulls happy win first round away win─── MORGAN PIEK 08:11 Mon, 19 Sep 2022
The first round of the United Rugby Champions was played on the weekend and there were wins for among other Bulls, Leinster and Ulster.
The Bulls made an early statement in the tournament by beating the Lions 31-15 at Ellis Park in the Jukskei derby.
The Bulls coach, Jake White, said he has happy to record an early away win in the tournament.
“Getting the away win is a massive bonus for us because that's the trend of the tournament. You have to get some away wins,” said White.
“I think we left a couple of points out there on the park, but I enjoyed the way we showed composure. At some point, it looked like we could let our hair down and have a go.
“They equalised, so the way we showed composure and the reserves did well. You don't want to put in reserves when you're up against it.”
Meanwhile in some of the other scores on the weekend - Benetton beat the Glasgow Warriors 33-11, Cardiff stunned Munster with a 20-13 win, and Leinster edged Leinster 33-29 in Parma.
The defending champions, the Stormers, as well as the Sharks weren’t in action on the weekend.
On Friday night at 18:30, Zebre will host the Sharks in Parma, while on Saturday at 14:30, the Stormers will tackle Connacht at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch.
The Bulls in turn will host Edinburgh at Loftus Versfeld, while the Ospreys will be at home to the Lions in Swansea.
