Cheetahs geared up for EPCR Challenge Cup Rounds 3 & 4─── KAYLA BARKER 15:30 Sun, 08 Jan 2023
The Toyota Cheetahs have left Bloemfontein today, the 8th of January, and are on their way to Europe for Rounds 3 and 4 of the EPCR Challenge Cup. They are set to begin in Llanelli, Wales against Scarlets on Friday, the 13th of January.
For the duration of the tournament the Cheetahs are based in Europe and are set to host their ‘home’ games in Parma, Italy at the Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi. Round 4 of the Challenge Cup is set to be their home game against Pau on Sunday, the 22nd of January.
The team was dealt a blow when Springbok, Frans Steyn, was declared unfit to play in the remainder of the EPCR Challenge Cup due to reinjuring his hamstring during training. It has also been reported that fellow Springbok, Oupa Mohoje suffered a similar injury and has also been pulled from the 28 man touring squad.
The squad was announced earlier this week and included the likes of Steyn and Mohoje but the two Springboks have, reportedly been replaced by Cohen Jasper and Roelof Smit, respectively.
The Toyota Cheetahs are currently in 5th position of the log with 5 points. Their round 3 opponents, Scarlets, currently lead the log in 1st with 10 points.
