The Sharks fullback Aphelele Fassi who has recently come back from an injury, made it clear that he wants to play the best rugby that he can, as he has bigger aspirations for 2023.

He is hoping that he can be recalled to the Springbok squad again, or to any of the camps.

The 25-year-old stated that playing for one’s country is always the ultimate prize, especially in a Rugby World Cup year.

"Any rugby player has the aspiration to be in the World Cup squad," said the X-factor player.

He was dropped from the Bok squad after the 2nd Test against Wales in Bloemfontein last July, and the coaches highlighted a few aspects of his game that need some fine-tuning.

"I was told there were certain things I had to fix - my tackling was the key thing, as well as my kicking game," he says.

He has been working to improve those weaknesses while not forgetting to enhance his strengths.

His improvement has been noticed, as he received the man-of-the-match award against Edinburgh last week, which shows that he has taken the instruction to address his weaknesses seriously.

"I am proud of my performances, and I can say I have made progress," Fassie said.

Fassie is expected to be in action again on Saturday when the Sharks host the Stormers at Kings’ Park in Durban in the United Rugby Championship.
