Griquas make one change for Province game─── MORGAN PIEK 07:55 Thu, 01 Jun 2023
The Griquas have made just one change to their starting XV for Friday’s crucial Currie Cup game against Western Province in Kimberly.
The only change in the team is at tighthead prop with Janu Botha falling out due to an injury and this sees Justin Forwood get a start.
Botha, who recently had a chest injury, is battling with an elbow niggle this week and the Griquas are opting not to risk the player.
Meanwhile, the coach Pieter Bergh, told OFM Sport that he is confident they have addressed their shortcomings from last week's draw against the Cheetahs.
“It was clear to see that they were much happier with the draw than we were,” said Bergh.
“It felt like a loss for us because I thought we were the better team. Tactically we were superb - our 9 (Johan Mulder), 10 (Lubabalo Dobela) and 15 (George Whitehead) were brilliant in controlling that match.
“At the end of the day we conceded 29 points of which 26 came from the Cheetahs maul.
“Getting our maul defence right was obviously a big work-on for this week, but besides the maul we dominated every aspect of that game.”
Friday’s game in Kimberley kicks off at 15:00.
Griquas - 15 George Whitehead, 14 Rosko Specman, 13 Jay-Cee Nel, 12 Tertius Kruger, 11 Luther Obi, 10 Lubabalo Dobela, 9 Johan Mulder, 8 Carl Els, 7 Hanru Sirgel (captain), 6 Thabo Ndimande, 5 Derik Pretorius, 4 Dylan Sjöblom, 3 Cebo Dlamini, 2 Janco Uys, 1 Kudzwai Dube
