'It's just something next level' - Olivier─── MORGAN PIEK 07:36 Fri, 23 Jun 2023
The hard-working Toyota Cheetahs loose-forward, Friedle Olivier, is looking forward to playing his first Currie Cup final when they host the Pumas in Bloemfontein on Saturday.
Olivier joined the Cheetahs in July last year from Russia, and he has been a major part of the Cheetahs success over the past 11 months.
Olivier has been the player of the match on a number of occasions this season and he has been an very important part of the team, especially when it comes to their physicality.
When he was injured earlier in the Currie Cup with a sprained ankle his presence was certainly missed.
Earlier in the week the powerful ball-carrier took a shot to the eye during training, but he should be fine for the final.
Olivier told OFM Sport that his slight injury is coming along and to be playing in the final is a part of living the dream.
“The eye is going and the swelling is coming down nicely,” said Olivier.
“It has been a life-long dream to be able to be a part of a great team like this and to be a part of a Currie Cup final.
“It is something fantastic that is happening in my career and it's great accolade that I can add to my personal accomplishments.
“I'm very excited to do my best and play my part in helping team to secure the trophy. It's going to be a very tough games as the Pumas are a very good and strong, physical team.
“It's hard to explain what the vibe and tightness in group is - it's just something next level and we are very excited for this weekend.”
Hawies Fourie will be naming his team for the final on Friday, but no major surprises are expected. The only changes will be injury enforced, it the loosehead prop Schalk Ferreira ruled out due to concussion.
Saturday’s big final at the Toyota Stadium will kick-off at 16:00.
