The four-time major champion, Rory McIlroy, of Northern Ireland has scored his first hole-in-one on the PGA Tour.
McIlroy hit the ace on the 8th at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut, during the opening round of the Travelers Championship.
Despite being the number one ranked golfer in the world for more than 120 weeks and having won four majors in the past, McIlroy had never been able to achieve the feat until yesterday.
The player did however finish his first round in a share of 46th on two-under-par 70.
McIlroy felt that the hole-in-one was a nice bonus and got him into the tournament a little.
“That was the best shot of the day that I hit,” said McIlroy of the 5-iron shot for the ace.
“It’s a bonus for it to go in the hole, it was really cool.
“I felt like that hole-in-one got me going a little bit. Got me into the tournament a bit.”
Denny McCarthy of the USA leads the Travelers Championship on 10-under-par 62 after round one.
