Unbeaten Cheetahs wary heading to Loftus Versfeld─── MORGAN PIEK 09:24 Mon, 15 Jul 2024
“Part of our message during our light activity was that if you switch off for a second you can get hammered. That's just the quality of the different teams, so you've got to pitch up every single weekend.”
The Toyota Cheetahs will be targeting a third straight win in the Currie Cup this weekend, but they are expecting their toughest challenge to date.
The defending champions will be heading to Pretoria where they will face the Blue Bulls at Loftus Versfeld.
The Cheetahs beat the Griffons convincingly in round one, while on the weekend they recorded a bonus point 37-17 victory against Western Province.
While it is still early days and the Cheetahs are looking like serious contenders to defend their title, there is still a lot of work to be done, and the Currie Cup has already proved to be unpredictable, especially after the Lions rolled over the Pumas in Nelspruit and the Griquas edged the Sharks in Kimberley.
The Cheetahs coach, Izak van der Westhuizen, told OFM Sport that the tournament is unpredictable and focus is required.
“That was the message at half time,” said Van der Westhuizen.
“We said currently we're playing at their tempo and they are trying to slow it down. We wanted to speed it up and if we can control it, we must control it and I think the guys reacted well at half time.

“That's just the quality of the different teams, so you've got to pitch up every single weekend to make sure you finish where you want to finish.”
Friday’s game at Loftus Versfeld kicks off at 17:00.
