The Springbok winger, Canan Moodie, is set to return to the field when the Blue Bulls tackle the Toyota Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Friday in round five of the Currie Cup.

Moodie has been out of action since the URC quarter-finals with a finger injury and missed out on the Springboks Tests against Ireland and Portugal.

The 21-year-old flyer has been named on the wing for the return leg against the Currie Cup champions and will definitely be a big boost to the team from the capital city.

The Bulls are the only remaining unbeaten team in the Currie Cup and the last time they faced the Cheetahs was just about two weeks ago in Pretoria. The Bulls won that game 25-13 at Loftus Versfeld, but they haven’t beaten the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein since 2018.

The coach, Phiwe Nomlomo, told OFM Sport it’s great to have a player of Moodie’s calibre back in action.

“Canan brings a wealth of knowledge and we saw during the week just how good he was with the micro-detail and those micro-comms with everyone around him,” said Phiwe Nomlomo.

“I guess the team as a whole almost grows an extra leg because now we’ve got certain people coming back. Even in the other positions, there is massive competition, and that’s good for us. So we’re hoping that we can really lift our standards.”

The fiery Cyle Brink also returns from an injury and will be used for impact off the bench.

Friday’s game at the Toyota Stadium kicks off at 17:00.
