Stormers geared for URC quarter-final─── MORGAN PIEK 07:45 Fri, 30 May 2025

The Stormers will be out for revenge on Friday evening when they take on the defending champions, the Glasgow Warriors, in Scotland in the first quarter-final of the United Rugby Championship.
Almost exactly a year ago, the Warriors defeated the Stormers 27–10 at the same venue in the quarter-finals before going on to win the URC title.
Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu and Stefan Ungerer will once again combine as the halfback pairing for Friday’s clash, with experienced campaigners Herschel Jantjies and Manie Libbok expected to make an impact off the bench in the second half. The Springbok duo are the only two backline players on the bench as they have gone with a six-two split.
Evan Roos returns to his role at the back of the scrum, joining Marcel Theunissen and Paul de Villiers in the loose trio. Louw Nel is named among the replacements.
Captain Salmaan Moerat will partner Ruben van Heerden in the second row, with locks JD Schickerling and Connor Evans among the six forwards set to feature after half-time.
André-Hugo Venter starts at hooker, flanked by props Ali Vermaak and Neethling Fouché. Vernon Matongo, Joseph Dweba and Sazi Sandi have been named as the front-row replacements on the bench.
Stormers head coach John Dobson said that after a solid week in Glasgow, his team is fully focused on delivering a big performance at Scotstoun.

“The build-up to this game has gone really well, and we know it’ll take a massive effort to beat a quality Glasgow side on their home turf,” said Dobson.
“We’ve built up some good momentum recently and want to carry that into this match. It was a tough team to select – a few deserving players have missed out – but we’re excited to see what these combinations can deliver.”
Friday night’s quarter-final at the Scotstoun Stadium will kick off at 20:35.
