The Bulls are out of the Champions Cup after losing 25-21 to the Glasgow Warriors in a round of 16 clash at Scotstoun on Saturday evening.

A Springbok-laden Bulls side put the first points on the board thanks to a successful penalty by Handré Pollard, but Glasgow scored the first try when lock Max Williamson crossed the whitewash in the 17th minute.  But the Bulls encountered courtesy of Johan Grobbelaar to put the Bulls in the lead by 8-7 in the 27th minute.

On the half-hour mark, Pollard was once again successful with a penalty kick in difficult, rainy conditions. But Jack Dempsey scored an unconverted try for the hosts soon after, putting the hosts in the lead.

Second half

Pollard slotted another penalty just before half-time, giving the Bulls a 14-12 lead at the break.

However, the lead went back to Glasgow 16 minutes into the second half when prop Patrick Schickerling crashed over the line. The try again went unconverted, but Glasgow stretched their lead to 22-14 when Stafford McDowall dotting it down in the left-hand corner.

The Bulls were not done just yet, and Marco van Staden scored for the visitors thanks to the safe hands of Canan Moodie, collecting a chip over the top. But poor discipline cost the Bulls in the final minutes when Elrigh Louw received a yellow card for continued infringements. Adam Hastings slotted the final penalty as the hooter sounded.

Glasgow will now face Toulon in the quarter-final of the competition, while the Bulls’ attention will return to the United Rugby Championship.

They will face the Dragons on 17 April at Rodney Parade in Newport, Wales.
