Despite a deflating loss in which South Africa had an early lead only to lose 3-1 to Spain in their Women’s World Cup match in Stade Oceane, Le Havre, coach Desiree Ellis says they are ready for their next game against China on Thursday.

The Group B match will be played at the Parc des Princes Stadium in Paris (start at 9pm).

"Goals win games and if you have opportunities you have to take them. I think that was the turning point in our defeat against Spain," said the Banyana Banyana coach.

"We took one chance in the first half, and then in the second half we had a fantastic one which would have given us a 2-0 lead, but didn’t convert it. Then two penalties were awarded and after that we were down to 10 players after the red card.

"Then it was always going to be difficult. I felt we deserved more out of the game. We were very organised and even though they had a lot of possession they struggled to break us down. On the counter we looked very dangerous.

"All the people back home can be very proud of this team.

"We always analyse our opponents. We are a very focused team and we are ready for the next game against China on Thursday.

"We will work out a game-plan and see if we need to change personnel or not."
