France edge SA in seven-goal thriller─── MORGAN PIEK 08:35 Mon, 26 Jul 2021
The South African U23 football team are on the verge of being eliminated from the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
This comes after AmaGlugGlug were beaten 4-3 by France yesterday during their Group A second round tie.
The defeat is South Africa’s second at the Summer Games after being edged by the host Japan on Thursday last week.
Coach David Notoane said they made too many defensive errors.
“We went for it, and they also came for it.
“I think in the end it was a game of small margins in error. We made more mistakes in our defensive actions than France. They scored four and we scored three times.
“I'm proud of the boys for the effort, the commitment, and the quality of football we are capable of.”
South Africa face Mexico at 13:30 on Wednesday at the Sapporo Dome in their final group match.
