The former captain and living Liverpool legend, Steven Gerrard, will be making an unexpected return to the English Premiership.
The 41-year-old Gerrard who scored 120 goals in 504 appearances for the Reds, has been named the new Aston Villa coach.
Last month, Gerrard was linked with a possible move to Tyneside to take up the role as Newcastle United manager.
Following his retirement from football, Gerrard, has coached the Scottish giants, Rangers, at Ibrox for the past three-and-a-half years.
Gerrard thanked everybody at Rangers and added that is proud to join a club with a rich history in English football.
“Aston Villa is a club with a rich history and tradition in English football and I am immensely proud to become its new Head Coach.
“In my conversations with Nassef, Wes and the rest of the Board, it was apparent how ambitious their plans are for the club and I am looking forward to helping them achieve their aims.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everybody associated with Glasgow Rangers for giving me the opportunity to manage such an iconic football club. Helping them secure a record-breaking 55th league title will always hold a special place in my heart.
“I would like to wish the players, staff and supporters the very best for the future.”
The former Liverpool hardman in the midfield, Gary McAllister, returns to Villa Park as Gerrard's assistant. McAllister served as an assistant to Gerrard at Rangers as well.
