Bafana look forward to the Mbappé challenge─── MORGAN PIEK 14:04 Tue, 29 Mar 2022
The national football team, Bafana Bafana, welcomes playing against one of the world’s finest players on Tuesday evening when they face the world champions, France, in Lille.
The Paris Saint-Germain striker, Kylian Mbappé, is available to play for Les Blues this evening in their international friendly against South Africa.
The 23-year-old marksman has been linked with a possible move to the English football giants, Liverpool, in recent times.
The Bafana captain and goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams, emphasised the importance of focusing on France as a unit.
“He is obviously one of the best players in the world at the moment but it's a challenge for us and it's one that the players are looking forward to.
“We want to give a good account of ourselves and we won't focus on him, we're focused on the whole team because they are a very strong team.
“We will just go out there and believe in our qualities and play as a team. If we stick to the game plan and stick to the structure, everything should be fine for us.”
The Bafana Bafana coach, Hugo Broo, in his turn jokingly said that it’s a pity the deadly striker is available to play, but welcomes the challenge against a world-class player.
“It's a pity that he's available,” said Broos.
“At the moment, he is one of the best players in the world. When I see him playing with PSG, he is a fantastic player, a very dangerous player.
Even when you have a plan to neutralise him, there will still be one moment in the game that he's gone and that he scores.
“I would have liked that my colleague on the other side would have done the contrary and let him play against the Ivory Coast and not against us but it's also a challenge for us to play against such a player.
“We know his qualities so we will not have surprises with him but on the other hand, how we are going to neutralise him is another thing.”
Tuesday night's game between South Africa and the world champions at Stade Pierre-Mauroy kicks off at 21:15.
