Banyana Banyana and Burkina Faso shared points on Thursday night in the first leg of the second round Women's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier played in Ivory Coast.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw, but crucially South Africa managed to secure a point in the away fixture.

The reigning champions, South Africa, drew first blood in the crucial qualifier with Hilda Magaia finding the back of the net in the 56th minute.

Yasso Konate equalised for the team from West Africa in the 68th minute for the game to end in a stalemate.

Meanwhile, the former Banyana captain, Janine van Wyk, equalled the African record as the most capped international player, in both the men's and women's game. She earned her 184th cap which equalled the record of Egypt's Ahmed Hassan.

In the return leg in South Africa, she will become the continent's most capped player, provided the seasoned defender takes to the field.

The return leg will be played on Monday at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville, with this game kicking off at 15:00.
