Marumo seek to bounce back againts Maduka's Magesi─── MORGAN PIEK 08:58 Sat, 29 Nov 2025
The Bloemfontein-based Marumo Gallants will be targeting a strong performance in the Premier Soccer League on Sunday when they welcome John Maduka’s Magesi FC to the Slaughterhouse.
Marumo are currently 11th on the log as the first half of the season approaches its end, but they also want to maintain confidence and momentum ahead of next week’s sold-out Carling Knockout Cup final against the mighty Orlando Pirates in Polokwane.
Gallants have dropped points in their last three league games, with a 4-1 defeat to Golden Arrows and a 1-0 loss to Durban City (both in Durban), while in their most recent outing they fought for a 1-1 draw against Sekhukhune United in Bloemfontein.

Magesi, the outgoing Carling Knockout Cup champions, won’t be an easy team to beat. Despite sitting second from last on the log, they have a knack for punching above their weight. Furthermore, Maduka is a legend in Bloemfontein – a former Bloemfontein Celtic captain and coach. The former Malawian international knows the football culture and the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium like the back of his hand.
While Maduka is arguably the nicest guy in PSL football, he is a formidable competitor and will ensure Marumo have to dig deep for points.
Marumo’s Burkinabé midfielder, Ibrahim Bancé, told OFM Sport that Sunday’s home game is a big one for several reasons, with home wins being non-negotiable.

“We have a very important match on Sunday - important because it’s at home, and important because it’s the last game of the first half of the season before the Carling Knockout Cup final,” said Bancé.
“We absolutely have to take the three points to get back on track in the league, as we’ve dropped quite a few points.
“It will also give us confidence going into the final, even though we’re already confident.
“We’re going to approach this match with the utmost seriousness, attract a bit of luck, and make sure we leave with the three points, because we really need them.”
Sunday’s match at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium kicks off at 15:30. Meanwhile, on Saturday at 18:00, Siwelele FC will face Chippa United at the same venue in Bloemfontein.
