International Human Trafficking investigation extends scope to FS | News Article

Bloemfontein - An international investigation into an alleged human trafficking ring has spread to the Free State. This after local model, Princess Mahlangu, was apparently rescued from the ring after intervention by Police Minister, Fikile Mbalula.

Mahlangu was allegedly lured to Malaysia to take part in a beauty pageant, which she entered online. OFM News spoke to Khuluma Africa journalist, Maynard Manyowa, who recently published a story about the alleged kingpin. Manyowa is investigating similar incidents involving the suspect.

Meanwhile, OFM News spoke to another model, who also travelled to Malaysia for the same pageant. Jessie Tottrup from Denmark says she arrived in Malaysia and left the same day, after being informed that the pageant had been cancelled.

Ace Models’ Anri Powell from Bloemfontein says young girls are easy targets for fake modelling agents online, as social media makes it easy for predators to access their images and interests.

OFM News is in possession of the name and country of origin of the suspect but is withholding it at the request of the Hawks. Spokesperson, Hlangwani Mulaudzi, says broadcasting these details might jeopardize their investigation. He, however, confirmed the arrest and details about possible arrests to follow. Mbalula’s spokesperson, Vuyo Mhaga, says after the minister got involved several other girls, who were to take place in the pageant, were rescued.
