Harris suffers 1st round exit in Portugal─── MORGAN PIEK 09:35 Wed, 28 Apr 2021
Lloyd Harris' return to the court is one the leading South African men's singles player will want to put behind him.
Harris bowed out of the Portugal Estoril Open with a first-round defeat to Italy's Marco Cecchinato.
The world number 94 won the clay-court match in straight sets with a 6-3, 6-4 win over the 53rd-ranked Harris.
The match was the first on a clay court for Harris as he prepares for the 2021 French Open at Roland Garros in Paris at the end of May.
The 24-year-old from Cape Town will be competing in ATP events in Madrid, Rome, and Lyon as preparation for the clay-court Grand Slam.
Meanwhile, Kevin Anderson served 20 aces to go through to the second round with a 4-6, 7-6, 7-6 win over Frances Tiafoe of the USA.
