Williams to begin pursuit for 24th Grand Slam title─── MORGAN PIEK 14:00 Tue, 01 Sep 2020
The 38-year-old world number eight, Serena Williams, will begin her pursuit for a record 24th Grand Slam title on Tuesday evening during day two of the US Open being played at Flushing Meadows in New York.
Williams hasn’t won a Grand Slam since winning the 2017 Australian Open women’s singles title in Melbourne.
This evening the 3rd seed for the Slam will be up against her compatriot, Kritsie Ahn, at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The former world number one, Williams, says she won’t be satisfied until she retires.
“I have definitely been struck here proudly as a party of one.
“I am pretty happy about it, but obviously I am never satisfied.
“That has been the story of my career. It is that it is. I took a year and a half off for a baby.
“I will never be satisfied until I retire. I’ve never going to stop until I retire.”
The Louis Armstrong Stadium is geared for some mouth-watering action, with Nao Hibino of Japan up against the 10th seeded Garbine Muguruza of Spain, while Belgium's Yanina Wickmayer takes on the 2nd seeded American, Sofia Kenin.
