Results from late on Tuesday night saw Venus Williams suffer yet another round one defeat when she went down to Karolina Muchova in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5.

Her sister, Serena Williams, on the other hand, made it through to the second round of the campaign when she picked up a straight-set 7-5, 6-3 win over Kristie Ahn.

The biggest win of the day went to Andy Murray who battled back from two sets down to win a five-set thriller against Yoshihito Nishioka, with two of the final three sets won on a tie break.

South Africa’s Lloyd Harris will be in the second round action on Wednesday when he serves it up in another tough encounter, taking on Belgium’s David Goffin.
